Special Seminar by dr Nils Lindström

Developmental Blueprints: Constructing a Stem-Cell Derived Human Kidney
Dr Nils Lindström, University of Southern California Stem Cell Institute
Nils’ research focuses on single-cell omics, pluripotent stem cells and kidney organoids to establish core developmental concepts that can be re-used in pluripotent cell-based synthetic biology and its technological applications

Nils was trained by Professor Jamie Davies at the University of Edinburgh and during his postdoc with Andy McMahon Nils utilized his knowledge of kidneys development in model organisms to decipher key steps of human organogenesis. Now his own lab is translating all this info into organoid research with an aim to generate 1000 mini-kidneys for therapeutic needs of kidney disease

50 years of Finnish Twin studies symposium

50 years of Finnish Twin studies

The oldest part of the Finnish Twin Cohort, twins born before 1958, was compiled in 1974, prior to the first questionnaire study in 1975. The subsequent cohorts, known as FinnTwin16 and FinnTwin12 started in 1991 and 1994 respectively. These longitudinal studies are still ongoing.

Over the years, multiple international collaborations have occurred, including the major GenomEUtwin study, which started over 20 years ago as a EU-funded collaboration of eight large twin studies in Europe and Australia.

To celebrate half a century of research and training, we are organizing a symposium on July 1, 2024 in Helsinki, on Biomedicum 1, lecture hall 1

The program will start at 10:30, lunch break at 1230 to 1330, and end by 15:30
