memories
Professor emeritus Gösta Gahrton, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm
Gösta Gahrton, MD, PhD., Professor emeritus in Medicine at the Karolinska
Institutet, Stockholm is an internationally leading hematologist. He was the Head
of the Department of Medicine Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, in 1985
-1998, and has been chairman of the Nobel committee at the Karolinska Institute,
the President of the European Group of Blood and Marrow Transplantation
(EBMT) and of the World Marrow Donor Association ( WMDA ). He is a honorary
member of many international Societies, including the EBMT and the Finnish
Society of Hematology. He has received several international awards, such as the
Robert A. Kyle Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. He is the editor of four books,
including  ”Myeloma and related disorders” Arnold, London 2004.He has recently
authored the book (in Swedish) “I Nobelprisets skugga ( In the shadow of the
Nobel Prize) “.
His research area is hematological malignancies with the focus on translational
aspects and clinical application of stem cell transplantation, particularly in
multiple myeloma. He has published more than 400 scientific articles.
