HiLIFE Webinar: Dan MacQueen

Fishing into fish genomes: from evolution to applications
Prof. Dan Macqueen holds a Personal Chair in Integrative Fish Genomics at the University of Edinburgh. His group addresses fundamental and applied research problems at the intersection of genome biology, physiology and evolution, predominantly working on aquatic species of commercial and ecological value. Dan has a long-standing passion about species from the salmonid fish family, which underwent a recent ancestral whole genome duplication event, with pervasive long-term impacts on genetic and biological evolution. Dan’s seminar will overview research from his group that cross-cuts multiple themes in modern fish genomics. This includes what fishes can teach us about genome evolution, how advances in the field including single-cell transcriptomics are reshaping our understanding of non-model species biology, and finally, how genomics can be applied to support sustainable aquaculture.
Welcome to this exciting webinar!

One-on-one discussions with Dan can be scheduled after the webinar, please get in touch if interested.
