FIMM Innovation & Commercialization (FInCo) Club seminar

JAK kinases – A journey from Academic Discovery to Clinics

Speaker
Olli Silvennoinen, MD, PhD
Co-founder, Ajax Therapeutics
Research Director, Institute of Biotechnology, HiLIFE, University of Helsinki

Olli Silvennoinen will share a first-hand perspective on the scientific journey of JAK kinases — from their original academic discovery and characterization to understanding their role in disease and their development into clinically relevant therapeutic targets.

The seminar will explore questions such as:

  • how a fundamental scientific discovery can develop into clinically relevant knowledge;
  • how basic research on molecular mechanisms creates opportunities for therapeutic development;
  • what happens along the long path from academic discovery to clinical translation;
  • how academic scientists can contribute to drug development and science-based innovation;
  • what lessons researchers can draw from a scientific journey spanning basic research, translational work and biotech development.

The seminar is particularly relevant for researchers, senior scientists, group leaders, clinicians and anyone interested in translational research, drug development, research commercialization and science-based entrepreneurship.
