ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Pia Heikkurinen works as a Project Manager at the University of Helsinki HEVI “Health Innovations Across Silos” and Health Capital Helsinki, focusing on health innovations and health and security preparedness. She develops solutions based on collaboration between research, companies and public-sector actors to strengthen society’s ability to function under changing and exceptional circumstances. Before joining University of Helsinki, she worked 20 years at Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund.

ABSTRACT

As the world dramatically changes, the role of universities in building health and security preparedness is also evolving. The presentation explores why foresight must be complemented by concrete preparedness solutions and contingency plans, and how research, companies and operational actors can be brought together into effective systems. The presentation will highlight examples of preparedness work already underway at the University of Helsinki.
