The biased mind: How do cognitive biases shape your research?

Welcome to our ReproducibiliTea UniHelsinki event in the Meilahti campus ☕

The biased mind:How do cognitive biases shape your research?

In this coming journal club, we will focus on an insightful article exploring how both unconscious thinking patterns and research practices can distort scientific findings. We’ll dig into examples of these biases, discuss what can be done to guard against them, and reflect on how they might affect our own work. Hope you can join us for what promises to be a rich conversation!

🎤 Speaker: Ana Kolar - the founder of Tarastats, a statistical consultancy company. Additionally, she is a professor at the department of mathematics and statistics at the University of Vaasa and a visiting researcher at the department of mathematics and statistics at the University of Helsinki.

FIMM & Minerva special joint seminar by Professor Mette Sørensen Thinggaard

Molecular epidemiological studies of human aging - data and studies from the University of Southern Denmark and the Danish Registry

Mette Sørensen Thinggaard is an Associate Professor in Molecular Epidemiology at the Research Unit for Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Biodemography, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark (Odense, Denmark), which also houses the Danish Twin Registry and the Danish Aging Research Center. Mette Sørensen Thinggaard’s research area lies within molecular epidemiological studies of human health, aging, and longevity, with a profound interest in epigenetics - studies which are first of all conducted in twin cohorts. In recent years, a focus has also been on proteome studies.
